Realtor Safety Month: Realtor Safety Insight and Tips

The National Association of REALTORS® has once again designated September as REALTOR® Safety Month, reinforcing its commitment to equipping members with the knowledge, awareness, and empowerment needed to navigate potential risks.

The reality of working in real estate involves facing real threats, making it essential to be prepared. According to the 2023 REALTOR® Safety Survey, the potential dangers REALTORS® encounter on the job are alarming:
- 56,000 REALTORS® have been victims of crime while performing their duties.
- 322,000 REALTORS® have experienced fear for their safety while on the job.
- 406,000 REALTORS® lack safety protocols to protect themselves.

Adopting safety measures is not just a precaution—it's a life-saving habit. Don’t wait for the worst to happen; take proactive steps to reduce your risk and safeguard yourself in the field.

Keep Calm and Stay Alert
Stay calm and alert during client interactions and property showings. Most people are genuinely interested in buying or selling, but staying level-headed helps you think clearly and respond effectively in any situation. Here are some tips to stay composed and aware:
- Preparation is always essential. following these tips ahead of your meetings, you will instinctively respond instead of react.
- Trust your instincts. if you arrive at a property and something does not feel iright,it probably is not. it is okay to leave or drive around the block and phone someone to come with you.
- Meditation, self-defense, and personal safety courses can teach you how to respondd to a crisis.
- Pay attention to your breath. breathe naturally or take a few deep, calming breaths.
By incorporating these tips into your routine, you can ensure that you remain calm, and collected, giving the best possible service to your clients. Stay aware, and let your professionalism shine through every interaction.
